Wolven - The Twilight Circus
Written by Di Toft
Having spent the summer dodging mutant werewolves and barking-mad scientists, Nat Carver and Woody, his shape-shifting friend, have joined the Twilight Circus of Illusion before going in search of Woody’s long-lost clan.
But instead, the boys find themselves caught up in a thrilling new adventure - this time against the forces of evil in the guise of a black widow vampire and her terrifying hive.
Featuring a fantastic lenticular cover, this is the second in the bestselling Wolven series; jam-packed with all the hairy fun and adventure that thrilled readers in the first book – and a howl lot more!
Praise for Wolven:
'A hair-raising adventure with plenty of bite (and a very cool lenticular cover).' TBKMAG
'… a brilliant read that mixes sinister technological thrills with chilling lore.' WATERSTONE’S BOOKS QUARTERLY
'Fast and funny, it’s sure to wow readers of 8 or 9+ … Brilliant.' LOVEREADING4KIDS
In the months following the werewolf attack which had almost killed him, his mum had watched Nat carefully. She had heaved a sigh of relief when the first new moon passed and her only child hadn’t shown any signs of sprouting fur and turning into a slavering wolf. When the second new moon came and went, she allowed herself to relax, thanking her lucky stars that whatever gifts Nat may have acquired from Woody’s wolven blood, it didn’t include shape-shifting.
Nat was also thankful, not least because he had watched Woody’s struggle with his own shape-shifting. He had seen close up and personal how uncomfortable stretching out of shape could be, not to mention stomach-churningly weird. But when Nat had realised how thrilled his mum was when there were no physical changes in the months following his emergency blood transfusion, he decided to keep what was really going on to himself. His physical recovery following Lucas Scale’s attack had been incredibly fast thanks to his new blood, but the recurring nightmares had left their scars on his soul.
Since the summer, Nat had developed some seriously cool improvements to his human senses and had so far managed to keep them secret. The cool things were:
Ÿ Long-range, high-frequency hearing
Ÿ Sixth sense (needed a bit more practice)
Ÿ Telepathy, also known as the two-way thing (ditto)
Ÿ Super-enhanced, infrared vision
His eyesight was brilliant. Nat had needed glasses for schoolwork before all the bother at Helleborine Halt; now he could see for miles and, even more spectacular, he could see in the dark!
