Falling
Written by Sharon Dogar
Falling tells the story of Neesh, a young Asian girl, haunted by frightening images and voices from the past. Just when the echoes in her head threaten to overwhelm her, rescue comes unexpectedly from a boy called Sam.
Neesh and Sam find themselves falling in love – but, it turns out, fated to replay a love affair from a previous life that ended in tragedy – unless they can find a way out.
The gripping second teenage novel from Sharon Dogar, the critically acclaimed author of Waves.

I begin the walk home. It’s going to snow. I know things like that, always have. What if I could hold my head up and keep my shoulders down, like Leah said, would it really work?
Would Sammy see me differently then, see me, like Romeo sees Juliet …? I shiver, maybe not like that, not like Juliet … she had to die didn’t she? I stop and lean against the big silver birch in the park. I always come here, on the way home, it’s the place I stop and draw breath.
Trees don’t have feelings, colours, needs, and plants don’t either, they just are. They’re not like us, always trying to become something else. The tree still only has the tiniest of buds and I put my arms around it. I wonder if the warmth of my arms will strike up a memory somewhere deep inside the tree, like a flicker of summer. I close my eyes and I imagine what would happen if the tree suddenly burst into life all green and golden.
Q: What about me? What about if Sammy put his arms around me? Would I burst into life, all green and golden? I laugh. I imagine my arms bursting into branches and breaking out of my coat.
I laugh, and I lean against the tree with my eyes closed and pretend that its Sammy I’m resting against.
