Melvin Burgess, Author
Melvin Burgess, award-winning young adult fiction author and writer of the Billy Elliot novelisation for Chicken House, was born in 1954 in Twickenham, but grew up in Sussex and Berkshire. The book he would most like to have written is The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle. His advice for aspiring authors is just to 'keep at it! If you want to enough you'll get there - but be aware, it can take years.'
